5 Essential Qualities You Should Seek in Your Suppliers

A wise person told me once that most problems that arise between buyers and sellers are due to problems with the supplier rather than the product's they sell. In my better than 25 years of supplying deposit bags, evidence bags and security bags I have found this to be absolutely true.

Although you have many choices in whom you select, when put to the following criteria, the field of legitimate suppliers thins rapidly. This is because, as is with most things in business, the majority of companies that sell products and services are more interested in selling you rather than assisting you. More interested in your money than building a trusted relationship.

When selecting a supplier for your security bag needs the first thing you should keep in mind is you will rely on that company over and over again. So it is important to select a firm that you are comfortable to establish a relationship with.

Even when we are purchasing from a company whos service is less than what we would like, we often remain with them for the fear of changing from bad to a worse situation.

With this thought in mind here are 5 things that you should examine when considering a new supplier for bank deposit bags, cash control bags or any other security bags:

Accessability- Most of us in business today rely heavily upon voice mail and email to keep in contact with their customers. Although this may be efficient in some ways, nothing is more maddening when trying to resolve a problem or issue than not getting a live person on the phone to immediately answer your questions. I believe that some people use email and voice mail as a method to avoid direct accessability. Online purchasing exaserbates this frustration. So be sure when purchasing online, the supplier provides you with a phone number in case you require personal assistance and a live person answers your call. Avoid lengthy phone trees that guide you from department to department.

Knowledge- How long does it take to resolve your issue? If your supplier knows their product and the application in which they are used, your answers should be immediate. When your supplier can provide clear and concise answers that you can easily understand, they are earning your confidence and respect. Simply, it is your suppliers responsibility to know their product so make them earn your confidence and your money.

Integrity- This is a word that is lost in many businesses today. Especially in larger firms whose management have little of their own money invested in the company. Furthermore, the product you buy may only be a subdivision of their main business. These people are more beholding to stockholders than to their customers. If you are purchasing a product that is vital to your daily business, it is wise to select the firm that has it's sole interest in the product you purchase. They will be more likely to respond immediately to any legitimate complaint as their survival hinges on your satisfaction.

Experience- At first blush this would seem to be the same as "knowledge". However, experience denotes time in service. Much like knowledge we acquire in our personal lives, experience puts substance to knowledge. For example, a 22 year old graduate in Economics may be very knowledgeable on the subject, but future years make that knowledge valuable to their fellow human being.

Depth of Product Line- This is the easiest requirement to view and hence why it is left to last. A company that offers an extensive product line is demonstrating confidence in what they sell. Products are developed over time from requirements of their many customers. They are more likely to have refined these products to offer you the greatest value for your money.

At http://www.tampertite.com/ we hold the above requirements to be essential in our 50 years of being in business and over 20 years of solving security bag problems. We are committed to our products because they have proven to work well for our customers and keep them coming back. We establish relationships confidence and trust. And with this commitment we are constantly evolving with new products that answer new developing requirements in our industry.

Are You a Victim of Deposit Bag Extortion?

We have received many reports over the years of banks extorting their customers into using their bank deposit bag rather than seeking their own source of supply. They claim that they cannot guarantee your deposit will be properly protected or accepted unless you pay their usual gouge rate.

Some of the banks we have found to perpetrate this extortion are:

Bank of America

Nations Bank

Wells Fargo Bank

Bank One

Mellon Bank

Just to name a few!

Why do banks do this?

It's pretty simple. The above banks sign contracts for huge quantities of bags with a manufacturer and must move this product. In order to avoid competing in the marketplace they try to threaten you by nefarious methods to take their bag at their high price.

So What's the Big Deal!?

The big deal is several. First, you have to conform your need to their predetermined size and type of bag. For instance, we have many customers such as Fast Food Franchises that were forced to purchase a "dual compartment" bag used for separating cash and checks. The only problem is they do not accept checks at most fast foods. So they were purchasing the most expensive bag for a less expensive application. Bank of America was charging $.25 each for a bag that my customer did not need. We now provide them with the correct single compartment deposit bag for only $.15 ea. That's a savings of 40%! The annual savings the customer realizes is over $3000.00!

Another big deal is you allow your banker to dictate how you are allowed to conduct your business. Their job is to take your money no matter how it arrives. And the truth be told they covet your money. But their inherant arrogance prohibits them from showing this. So they go on the offence an act like the Enforcer.

Another big deal is they attempt to disallow a fundamental right we American's treasure above all. The freedom to Choose! By limiting your choices you inevitably pay more and get less. Less quality, less service and less control of your most treasured asset. YOUR MONEY!!

Here is Another Horror Story

We have experienced countless times where Bank of America has literally called the accounting departments of mid-size and large retail firms to tell them their bank fees would be increased if they did not buy the banks bag. Accountants are very sensitive to bank fees and in many cases give in without so much of a fight. Even though the increased cost of buying the banks bag in some case outstretch the increased fees. This is as blatant an extortion attempt as it can get. The bank cannot force your to purchase their product to accept your money that you pay for them to accept.

Fight Back!

The answer is the same as any other product where big companies try to gain unfair advantage at your disadvantage. Do Not Buy Their Deposit Bags! Whether you select Tampertite deposit bags of any other product, you will at least be doing your part to obstruct the banks' getting away with this extortion and creating better opportunities through increased selection of the product best suited for you.

Deposit bags- Are Banks Your Best Source?

Most people today purchase their disposable bank deposit bags from their bank. This is a natural thing to do since banks benefit by receiving your money. Why wouldn't they be the most concerned partner in your safety?

This is what they would like you to believe. However, there are some flaws in this assumption of which you should be aware.

  1. Responsiblity -Banks are not responsible for the safety of your money until it is their money! That's right, banks are not liable for any discrepancies in your deposit until they have posted the deposit to your account. Hence, the quality of your deposit bag is of no legal concern to them.

  2. Profitability -Banks view the deposit bags you purchase from them as a profit center. They purchase the cheapest bag they can and charge the highest price to you. Quality and Security are not necessarily the main criteria for their buying decisions. Essentially, they not only want all of your money, they want your consumption capital also.

  3. Choices -Banks offer limited choices! Most banks only offer 1 or 2 sizes and styles of bags. You are expected to select from one of these. We offer 20 different sizes and styles of deposit and security bags. America is about choices but banks think they should be limited to the ones they decide upon.

  4. Obligation to Your Security - Many people are unaware that when your money is deposited in your bank it ceases to be your money. It becomes the bank's money to use as the see fit. Your money is an investment in the bank you choose to do business with. Though you have a demand account normally called a "checking account", the money is strictly and investment. Hence, only obligation to security of your money is limited to how they handle it after you have given it to them. This why they can remain so arrogant.

Beyond these negatives we have mentioned, there are some irresistable positives when you select a company that specialize in making quality bank deposit bags.

Total Obligation to Security - When a company derives its sole source of income from deposit bags, quality and security is the life blood to that companies success. No company that has competition can expect to succeed or even survive if the customers satisfaction isn't first and formost. www.tampertite.com as survived on this main concept for over 20 years

Personal Service- Any company that specializes in a product that involves your security should be easily accessable. Try to get valuable information about your deposit bags from your bank! We provide our customers with Toll Free access to a human being that can answer any and all of your questions. Avoid people of any stripe that make it difficult to gain access to them.

Dedication to Quality- Banks do not make your bags and therefore have little knowledge of what makes the best and most effective product for you. Nor do they have any interest in what makes up a quality bag. As mentioned, this is how we make our living and thus are dedicated to making the best product at the best cost, and have been for over 20 years!

Delivery- Simply stated at the risk of redundancy, this is our business. Hence, our delivery must be efficient and fast.

Price - On average Tampertite Disposable Bank Deposit bags are priced 40% below what most banks charge their customers. This is because, as we already mentioned, banks do not make the bags they sell. Hence, they buy them from someone like us and mark up the price. Your savings are dramatic when you purchase your bags direct.

Let's face it. Dealing with banks for most businesses is like having to take a poison pill. You deposit your money in their vaults for them to use as they please and give you very little if any interest back. To add insult to injury, they charge you for the priviledge with endless fees and service charges. Then the gouge your on the bag that transports the money to them. What is wrong with this picture?

Paper Or Plastic?

I have been distributing plastic bags for over 25 years and I can fairly say I have heard almost every expletive as to the evils of plastic versus paper. These accusations range from polluting the landfill to contributing to global warming. I feel safe in saying that virtually every one of these claims are either fraudulent or false. Now, I know some people can be wedded to their theories and what I just said could be construed as blasphemy. But let's put our emotions aside for a moment and examine the facts. It may help in making good purchasing decisions.

Does Plastic Pollute?
In a word, NO! The truth is 90% of all plastic is recycled into other plastic products such as bottles and buckets and such. The fact is recycle polyethylene is sold to manufaturers of wood products such as Renew Plastics at www.renewplastics.com . What little does finally reach the landfill breaks down into - what?, OIL! It's kind of the ashes to ashes, dust to dust thing.

What About Plastic and Global Warming
I do not claim to be a scientist and cannot say whether global warming is a reality or a theory. But I do know it has had a great effect on how we treat energy consumption. Plastic has been lumped in as a contributor to GW because of the aforementioned fraud that plastic pollutes and thus is dangerous to the total environment. Even Air!

Since, we have already exposed that claim, let's examine how plastic actually contributes to reducing the risk of global warming. First, anyone who has worked in a store that has both paper and plastic bags knows that storage space for plastic bags is far easier to find than for the paper counterpart. This is because on paper on average requires 40 times more storage space than plastic. It require equally 40 times more space to transport and warehouse. Hence, paper requires more fuel to transport, and more warehouse energy to store.

These benefits are also passed on to the consumer in the form of more efficient packaging of goods such as food and other insundry products. Automobiles are more fuel efficient since lighter weight plastic has replaced steel. And lastly, it has contributed vastly to the healthcare community in every facit of the industry.

At www.tampetite.com, we address only one part of the plastic industry with high quality Tampertite bank deposit, evidence and drop safe bags. All of which are made out of 100% virgin polyethylene resin. We appreciate how plastic has contributed to the safety and efficiency or our products. And we remain dedicated to not only quality service to the marketplace. But also to be a reliable source of information to anyone making important buying decisions.

So the next time you are asked "Paper or Plastic", say PLASTIC!!

Custom Depost Bag Dangers - Part 2

In a previous blog we discussed some of the things to be aware of when deciding to customize your deposit bags (Custom deposit Bag Dangers! Feb 14 2007). These were:
  • Minimum Quantity Requirements
  • Over/Underages
  • Lead Time

In addition to these concerns there are a few other things you may want to consider:

Ink Colors - The ink used to print on plastic is transparent rather than opaque which is used on paper. Hence, if your imprint includes overlapping colors the overlap will distort both colors. For instance if you print Reflex Blue over Process Yello the result will be dark Green. Some of this can be remedied by usint mixed inks commonly known as RGB or CMYK inks. But is best that you avoid ovelapping colors.

Film Color - We often get reaquests for a special film color in order to facilitate easier identification of the bag We discourage this as it requires extruding a special film. This greatly increases your cost and length of production time to the job as well as any reorders. It is always best to use graphics and/or ink colors to create a distinction on your bag. This is effective, efficient and less costly.

Sizing Your Bag - One of the great advantages to customized bags is you have endless choices of the perfect size and style of bag to fit your need. This is also an opportunity to create a bag that makes your task more efficient and we enjoy the challange of assisting you in this area. However, we often are asked if we can produce 2 sizes or styles and combine the quantiies to get a lower price. This would on the face seem reasonable but the answer is no. The reason is different size or style of bags are produced separately and are therfore priced individually.

One Order with 2 or more different imprints and/ink colors - This is sometimes desirable when a customer wants the same size and style of bag perform different functions. This can be done and can be advantageous because you then can increase your quantity on the total order to obtain a lower unit price. However, be advised that in the case of ink color changes in a production run there will normally be an ink change and wash-down charg added to your order. Likewise, change the imprint in a production run there would be an additional charge for plate changes. Another thing to consider is the reorder process. To keep the same cost advantage you will need to reorder both bags together or increase the quantity of one.

We hope this has been has bee informative in your desire to produce your custom deposit bags. Our next blog will discuss:

  • Printing Plate and Art Preparation
  • Reordering Concerns
  • Print Registration
  • Selecting the best supplier

Custom Deposit Bag Dangers!

Many organizations have the desire to create their own deposit bags to more aptly suit their depositing needs. There is no doubt the customize imprints offer many advantages. Among these are:

  • Creating a format that makes it easier to identify contents
  • Makes your deposit easier to identify among the thousands of deposits that arrive daily.
  • Gives you an improved image

However, there are a few things your should know before committing yourself to a custom deposit bag.

  1. Minimum Quantities- Generally you will need to commit to at least 10,000 bags in order to be able to qualify for custom printing. To get better pricing, you will need to commit to 20,000 to 25,000 bags.
  2. Over/Underruns- When you purchase custom product the quotation should include expected over/underruns. Typically on smaller quantities 10,000 bags you should expect 20% to 25%. You are responsible to pay for any overages. So be sure to inquire if the percentages are not present on your quotation.
  3. Lead time: If you are conditioned to purchasing stock bags you are also conditioned to fast delivery. Generally within 7 working days. With a first time custom bag order you should factor at least 6 weeks and more likely 8 to 10 weeks to produce your first order. Subsequent orders typically take up to 6 weeks with most manufacturers of merit. Hence, you initial order quantity should be approximately a 6 month supply.

Other things you should know about customizing deposit bags:

Art Preparation and Printing Plate Costs

Color Selection

Imprint limitations

Deciding on Bag Size or Sizes

What you should expect from your manufacturer!

These will be discussed in my next blog.
